My Experience at Robinson Valley
For lunch one day, I was craving Jamaican food. Since I was working around Brooklyn Heights, I wanted something nearby that I could easily pick up without spending too much time at a sit-down restaurant.
That's how I found Robinson Valley.

What caught my attention immediately was the setup. Instead of a standard brick-and-mortar storefront, Robinson Valley operates a busy outdoor tent near Joralemon Street—right by Borough Hall and the Brooklyn Supreme Court—during weekday lunch hours.
💡 Local Tip: When I arrived, there was already a long line wrapping around the tent. Most customers were workers from nearby offices and courthouses. If local workers are lining up during a limited lunch break, you know the food is worth trying!
Note: Robinson Valley also maintains a main storefront at 383 Bridge Street and operates a newer food truck with an expanded menu. This review focuses exclusively on my experience at the weekday outdoor tent.
Atmosphere & Service
Don't come here expecting white tablecloths or formal seating. This is a straightforward, high-efficiency outdoor Jamaican food setup decorated with small Jamaican flags. Behind the counter, large steam trays hold hot, freshly prepared dishes.

- Dining Style: Purely takeout (no seating available).
- Speed: Fast. The food is pre-cooked and kept hot, so staff quickly scoop and package your meal once you reach the front.
- Hospitality: Super friendly counter staff who keep the line moving smoothly.
Service Rating: 9.3 / 10
Location & How to Get There

- Subway: Take the 3 or 4 train to Borough Hall (closest option) or the F train to Jay St–MetroTech and walk a few blocks toward Borough Hall.
- Main Storefront Location: 383 Bridge Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
- Food Truck: Operates around Downtown Brooklyn featuring a larger menu.
What I Ate: Detailed Food Breakdown
1. Oxtail Stew
- Rating: 9.5 / 10 (My Favorite)

This was the clear star of the meal. The oxtail meat was moist, incredibly tender, and coated in a dark, rich gravy with deep savory notes.

Pouring the extra oxtail gravy over the Rice and Peas completely elevated the entire plate. Since I thought the rice itself was slightly dry, the extra sauce from the oxtail made a big difference. If you only order one thing here, make it the oxtail.
2. Curry Goat
- Rating: 9.0 / 10 (Second Favorite)

The Curry Goat was another highlight. The meat was tender and loaded with classic curry flavor. It offered great seasoning without being overly spicy. Between the main meats, this easily took second place.
The only downside is that it has a lot of bones, which can be a bit distracting when eating since you have to remove them with almost every bite.
If goat is one of your favorite protein, then I recommend you try Goat biryani in Shanai restaurant & party hall
3. Jamaican Beef Patty
- Rating: 8.8 / 10

We also grabbed a Jamaican Beef Patty on the side. If you've never tried one before, the easiest comparison I can make is an empanada, although they're definitely not the same thing.

The Jamaican Beef Patty had a flaky golden-yellow crust with seasoned ground beef inside. This was actually the spiciest item I tried. The beef filling had a noticeable kick that I didn't really get from the Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat, or Oxtail.
I enjoyed the flaky crust, and it was nice having something different from another rice plate. If you don't want a full lunch, I could also see myself grabbing a Beef Patty as a quick snack.
4. Jerk Chicken With Rice and Peas
- Rating: 8.2 / 10

The Jerk Chicken looked promising and had solid seasoning, but the meat came out slightly dry on my visit. The accompanying Rice and Peas were also a bit dry, though mixing in the mixed steamed vegetables (cabbage, carrots, corn, and peas) helped round out the plate.
Price & Value
- Value Rating: 8.8 / 10
- Price Range: Moderate ($$)
Portions are standard lunch sizes—generous enough to satisfy without feeling heavy. The true value comes from the sheer convenience: zero wait for a table, fast service, reasonable pricing, and easy cash or card payment options right in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn.
Final Verdict
So, is Robinson Valley a hidden Jamaican lunch spot worth trying in Brooklyn? Yes, absolutely.
While the Jerk Chicken and Rice and Peas were a bit dry during my visit, the standout Oxtail Stew and flavorful Curry Goat more than made up for it. It’s ideal for office workers, courthouse visitors, or anyone needing a fast, flavorful Caribbean meal on the go. Next on my list is trying their food truck location to see how their expanded menu compares!
