Ambrosia Garden Astoria: Greek Food in a Beautiful Garden Setting
Quick Summary
If you're looking for a Greek restaurant in Astoria with beautiful surroundings and delicious food, Ambrosia Garden is one place I would recommend. This was my first experience trying authentic Greek restaurant dining, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood.
What initially caught my attention was the atmosphere—a garden-inspired interior featuring wooden details, hanging greenery, and warm lighting. For dinner, I tried the Skopelitiki Cheese Pie, Shrimp Youvetsi, and Galaktoboureko, alongside complimentary olive bread and a delicious orange cake. Why I Chose Ambrosia Garden

Astoria is famous across New York City for its vibrant Greek culinary scene. While I've explored various Mediterranean and North African spots nearby—such as Moroccan Bites by Siham on Steinway Street—I wanted this dinner to focus strictly on a complete Greek restaurant experience.
Before visiting Ambrosia Garden, I hadn't experienced a full Greek sit-down dinner like this. What drew me to their menu was an emphasis on regional Greek cuisine, specifically specialties associated with the Ionian Islands and Corfu. While many Greek spots focus heavily on standard moussaka or lemon potatoes, Ambrosia Garden introduces diners to unique regional flavors right in Ditmars-Steinway.
Atmosphere: A Beautiful Indoor Garden

The atmosphere was easily one of my favorite parts of visiting Ambrosia Garden. The dining room features an enclosed garden theme built with wooden beams, hanging plants, warm lanterns, and climbing greenery wrapped around structural columns.

There is also an intimate bar counter built with rustic wood, woven-backed stools, and softly backlit shelves. It feels like an outdoor garden patio in Greece transported indoors, making it usable year-round regardless of the weather. While most diners around me were couples and groups of friends, I felt completely comfortable dining solo. That said, it is an ideal spot for date nights, celebrations, or an evening out with friends.
Service: Friendly, Professional, and Helpful
The service throughout my dinner was excellent. From the moment I was seated, the waitstaff were welcoming, professional, and attentive without feeling intrusive.
When spending over $80 on a solo dinner, quality service makes a big difference. Between the warm hospitality and beautiful surroundings, Ambrosia Garden created a great first impression.
- Getting a table: Seated immediately upon arrival.
- Table service: Attentive, friendly, and well-paced.

What I Ate at Ambrosia Garden
Complimentary Bread with Olive Oil

Before my ordered dishes arrived, the server brought out a woven basket containing warm, sliced artisan bread studded with black olives and herbs. Paired with the bottle of extra virgin olive oil on the table, it was a simple, high-quality start to the meal.
Skopelitiki Cheese Pie — A Savory Greek Pastry

My first dish was the Skopelitiki Cheese Pie, a traditional Greek pastry originating from the island of Skopelos. It arrives baked in a coiled spiral with a golden-brown crust, filled with rich goat cheese, and accompanied by a side of sweet roasted red pepper jam.
Cutting into the crisp pastry revealed a soft, warm cheese center. Combining the savory goat cheese pie with the sweet red pepper jam created an amazing balance of flavors. I would easily order this again.
Shrimp Youvetsi — My Main Course

For my main course, I selected the Shrimp Youvetsi. Youvetsi is a classic Greek baked dish prepared with orzo (a small rice-shaped pasta) cooked in a rich tomato-based sauce.
The presentation was beautiful, featuring several large seared shrimp laid across a bed of tomato-coated orzo garnished with fresh green herbs. The pasta absorbed the savory seafood and tomato broth perfectly, making every bite incredibly satisfying. I cleaned the entire plate.
Galaktoboureko — Traditional Greek Custard Dessert

For my ordered dessert, I chose Galaktoboureko, a classic Greek dessert made with layers of crispy phyllo pastry, smooth semolina custard, and sweet syrup.
It arrived as a thick slice topped with golden phyllo sheets alongside a dollop of fresh cream. The contrast between the crunchy top pastry and the velvety custard underneath made it a fantastic finish to the meal.
Complimentary Orange Cake — A Delightful Surprise

To my surprise, the kitchen also presented a complimentary slice of Greek orange cake (portokalopita) topped with delicate pastry flakes and whipped cream. It had a vibrant citrus flavor and a rich, syrup-soaked texture. Trying both the Galaktoboureko and orange cake made the dessert experience extra special.
Price & Value — Was Ambrosia Garden Worth $83.83?
My total bill came to $83.83 before tip.

For one person, $83+ is certainly an expensive dinner. However, considering the high caliber of food, the generous extra treats, the professional service, and the beautiful indoor garden environment, I didn't regret the spend. It is better suited as a treat or special occasion meal rather than a weekly spot.
What I Think & Would I Return?
I had a wonderful first experience at Ambrosia Garden. Every single dish—from the savory goat cheese pie and shrimp youvetsi to both sweet desserts—delivered excellent flavor.
Sitting in the warm, green-filled dining room made the meal feel like a getaway within Queens. The welcoming service further elevated the evening.
Would I return? Definitely. Next time, I want to try their Grilled Octopus and whole Branzino to explore more of their Greek seafood offerings.
Final Verdict: Is Ambrosia Garden Worth Visiting?
If you are looking for a top-tier Greek dining experience in Astoria with memorable food and romantic, garden-inspired decor, Ambrosia Garden is well worth visiting.
It is an ideal pick for date nights, birthday dinners, or dining out with close friends. While it carries a higher price point ($83+ for my meal), the quality of ingredients, atmosphere, and hospitality justify the cost.
