Watch My Video Experience

In my video, you can see just how massive these pastries are. I ordered four different options: the Almond Chocolate Croissant, Raspberry Croissant, Pain au Chocolat, and Pistachio Croissant.

These aren't standard coffee-shop croissants—they are large enough to split and share with friends or coworkers.

Why I Visited L'Appartement 4F

L'Appartement 4F is located at 115 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights.

I came across L'Appartement 4F while exploring Brooklyn Heights. I had heard so much about their French croissants, artisan sourdough bread, and viral mini cookie cereal that I had to see if the reality matched the online hype.

When I arrived at 115 Montague Street, a line was already forming out the door.

💡 Local Tip: Go early! A colleague visited around 3:00 PM on a weekday and found many top-selling croissants completely sold out. Aim for morning or early lunch to get the full selection.

What Is the Bakery Like?

The space is much larger than your average neighborhood bakery.

  • Main Floor: Holds the ordering counter, main pastry displays, and fresh bread racks. Big front windows fill the room with natural sunlight.
  • Upstairs Loft: Offers dedicated seating overlooking the bakery floor below.
  • Vibe Check: Elegant and lively, but often busy. It is great for a coffee date or catching up with a friend, but not ideal for quiet laptop work or solo studying.

What I Ordered

I ordered four pastries to properly test their dough quality and flavor range:

Box of pistachio, almond chocolate, raspberry, and pain au chocolat pastries from L'Appartement 4F
The four pastries I tried at L'Appartement 4F in Brooklyn Heights.

1. Pistachio Croissant — My Top Favorite

  • Rating: 9.7 / 10
Pistachio croissant topped with crushed pistachios and rose petals at L'Appartement 4F
The Pistachio Croissant was one of the best pastries I tried.

This was visually the most impressive pastry of the group. Beyond the gorgeous presentation, the croissant itself was incredibly buttery, crisp, and loaded with rich pistachio cream that wasn't overly sweet.

2. Almond Chocolate Croissant — Co-Favorite

  • Rating: 9.7 / 10
Almond chocolate croissant topped with sliced almonds and powdered sugar at L'Appartement 4F
The Almond Chocolate Croissant was one of my favorites.

Combining frangipane almond cream with rich chocolate inside a flaky shell makes this feel more like an decadent dessert than a simple breakfast bite. It's huge—easily shareable between two people.

3. Raspberry Croissant

  • Rating: 9.2 / 10
Raspberry croissant topped with powdered sugar and raspberry pieces at L'Appartement 4F
The Raspberry Croissant was sweet, fruity, buttery, and flaky.

The raspberry topping and filling bring a bright, tart acidity that cuts through the buttery dough. If you prefer fruit-forward pastries over chocolate or nuts, this is your best pick.

4. Pain au Chocolat — Good, But Simple

  • Rating: 8.6 / 10
Pain au chocolat with flaky laminated pastry layers from L'Appartement 4F in Brooklyn
The Pain au Chocolat was good, although the flavored croissants stood out more to me.

Well-baked, flaky, and golden, but relatively straightforward. Given the unique specialty croissants on the menu, I would recommend spending your budget on the Pistachio or Almond Chocolate options instead.

Is L'Appartement 4F Expensive?

  • Value Rating: 8.8 / 10
  • Price Level: Expensive ($$$)

While it isn't a cheap grab-and-go morning spot, the high price is balanced by the premium quality and unusually large portion sizes. One croissant here can easily equal the volume of two standard pastries elsewhere.
